If you've been following OpenEI or the OpenEI blog, you've probably heard of linked open data, or LOD. And, in order for OpenEI to be a part of the LOD community, other areas of the web have to be open to LOD as well to share this mutual benefit.Okay, so linked open data makes sense as a concept, as we've all used the web to link to things, and have probably used the web to look at data or information on select topics. But what does the practical application of LOD mean? In short, LOD is a way for computers to communicate with one another using RDF, or a machine-readable format so that data can link across many machines instantly.
That is only a part of the meaning and application of LOD. So, OpenEI has created a page for you to find more information about LOD. And if Web 3.0 will be considered the semantic web, as many believe it will, LOD will be a major part of the advancement forward, which means understanding LOD is important to prepare for the future of the web.
